We are sad to report the following losses in our IORG family
Anne Hines, mother of Anne Laterra, PGWA passed away on May 25th. Please see below for funeral arrangements.
Anne Dougan Hines, 72, of Branford, beloved wife of the late John R. Hines, passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was the loving mother of Colleen Hines of Wallingford, Kerri (John “Jack”) Keniry of Tampa, FL, and Anne (Daniel) LaTerra of Northford; cherished grandmother of Cecilia and Jillian LaTerra; sister of Hamish (Ania) and Liam Dougan of Scotland; daughter of the late James and Margaret O’Rourke Dougan; and aunt, cousin, and friend to many. Born in Edinburgh, she enjoyed the best of city life in Portobello, Scotland, and country life in Counties Donegal and Leitrim, Ireland before coming to the US in 1976. Here, she built a life around faith, family, and the Irish community. She was on the board of Kid U Not, a past officer for Orchard House, past member of the St. Mary’s Ladies Guild and taught the 2nd-grade communion class for several years. Her involvement with the Irish American Community Center, New Haven Gaelic Football & Hurling Club and New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee made her a staple among local Irish. She served these organizations over the last 25 years, earning the 2006 Irish Woman of the Year title and leaving this world as President of the NHGF&HC. Her signature knit green hat for St. Patrick’s Day, quick wit, “FOAD”, and love of ice cream, scotch and coke no ice, and a cup of tea will never be forgotten. Her funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80), East Haven MONDAY morning at 11:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John Bosco Parish at St. Mary Church (Branford) at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be private. Family and friends may call SUNDAY from 4pm to 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The New Haven Gaelic Football and Hurling Club, 9 Venice Place, East Haven, CT 06512.
